The story of the Dougherty's Kenpo journey began with two little boys, Reese and Sebastian, at the ages of 6 and 7. Ryan and Shiloh wanted to ensure that their boys would share something in common, get exercise, and have the ability to protect themselves while learning respect and focus.
Not long after the boys began classes at Peoples Kenpo Karate, Ryan saw the opportunity to begin his own journey. It was always something he wanted to do as a child, but was not able to accomplish until later in life. Shiloh observed how her family enjoyed going to the dojo and decided to make time for herself, joining them on the mat.
The Dougherty family embraced the positive family atmosphere of Peoples Kenpo Karate and had aspirations to open a sister dojo serving the Denver and Lakewood area. They wanted to give back to their local community and saw this opportunity through martial arts.
"We are proud to share our mats with you."
Ohana
It Takes
A Dojo
At Rhyno's PKKA, we believe in Ohana — the Hawaiian concept of family. Our dojo is more than a place to train. It's a community where 4-year-olds and 40-year-olds find belonging on the same red mat.
From community outreach at local elementary schools to multi-generational classes where parents train alongside their kids, the Ohana spirit is what makes Rhyno's different. We're not a cage-fighter factory. We're a neighborhood institution built on discipline, warmth, and earned pride.
